Any native St. Louisan or visitor needs to jump aboard the Gateway Arch Riverboats! This is a super unique way to view the St. Louis skyline and it definitely made my STL must-do list.
There are a variety of cruises from which to choose: The 1-hour Riverfront Cruise, 2-hour Skyline Dinner Cruise, or the various specialty cruises they offer! You can even book one of the cruise boats for your special event.
My mom and I had the awesome chance to experience the Skyline Dinner Cruise. Get a sneak peek into our lovely evening.
My mom and I boarded the Becky Thatcher at 6pm and actually got to sit in the top level of the boat! Luckily, we had a window seat and eagerly started snapping photos as soon as we sat down! I grabbed us a glass of wine from the cash bar located on the bottom level. Both dining levels are enclosed and not open-air.
Dinner was so amazing! I opted for the petite filet, topped with Bearnaise sauce. It came with a side salad, side of orzo and green beans. So delicious and definitely a great meal. My mom got the chicken Marsala, which came with a salad, green beans and mashed potatoes. For dessert, we had apple pie cheesecake.
It was really neat because they had a few musicians on board that played old fashioned banjo music, similar to what you would’ve heard during the riverboat heyday. It added that perfect touch and really made the evening that much more enjoyable. It made me think about how busy these boats and Mississippi River would’ve been back in the day.
The boat travels south down the river, letting folks see areas of the riverbank that they wouldn’t normally see. So many barges passed us and it was amazing to see these so up close.
Dinner lasted about 1.5 hours, allowing for the last 30 minutes to be enjoyed up on the open, top deck of the boat. This was absolutely my favorite part of the experience. Hearing the river, seeing the sun set and approaching the downtown skyline once again.
Bottom line, I highly recommend this! It would be great for a date night, special occasion, birthday celebration, whatever! Definitely a top-notch way to see St. Louis in a different way and from a unique angle.
